Leg Pain from Sciatica
Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is a symptom of another medical problem, not a medical condition on its own. For example, a disc can herniate or bulge into the spinal nerves. Alternatively, the piriformis muscle may contract causing the sciatic pain affecting the back, hip, and outer side of the leg.
Chiropractic can be a great treatment option for many cases involving sciatica. A recent study showed that chiropractic helped the majority of patients with sciatic pain, even after they had failed standard medical treatments. Of those it did not help, surgery was still an option.
